Novak Djokovic contested the 2023 Wimbledon Championships final against Carlos Alcaraz, and Mats Wilander talked about it following the conclusion of the match.

Wilander closely followed the final as part of his job as a tennis analyst and like many, he was quite stunned that Carlos Alcaraz got it done. The Spaniard produced a really strong effort to beat Djokovic in five sets and win the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.

It wasn't the best match from Djokovic, even though he started it impressively. The final set was particularly annoying to Djokovic as he had early break points which he failed to convert, only to get broken soon after that.

He actually slammed his racquet on the net post in frustration, something that earned him plenty of boos from the crowd. Wilander talked about that situation pointing out how much Djokovic cares about winning matches.

My take on that situation is that I can completely understand I am sure that Novak will sort of regret that he did it maybe but at the same time that's nothing compared to losing the match. It just goes to show how much he is into it.

We've seen Novak Djokovic win so much over the years and we haven't seen him lose that many finals, especially not in five sets so the true champion comes out in him there.

Slamming the racquet the way he did wasn't a particularly smart idea as the Serbian likely hurt his wrist as he was spotted shaking his hand and adjusting his wrist during player. Wilander talked about it as well, explaining that it's a lesson to be learned.

I wouldn't suggest doing that to a net post but honestly he probably hurt his wrist a little bit because he kept shaking ihs wrist for the next four shots that he had to hit. Maybe there is a lesson to be learned.

But I don't mind that. That is in complete anger and frustration, disappointment. It just goes to show how much it means to Novak Djokovic to not win tennis matches.
