Alcaraz Stays World No. 1 Ahead Of Djokovic After Wimbledon Win In Latest ATP Rankings

Carlos Alcaraz began Wimbledon as the number one player on the ATP Tour, and he has the same rank after its conclusion.

Carlos Alcaraz emerged in a pretty familiar way on the tennis Tour, but not many expected him to become so good so quickly. The Spaniard made tremendous improvement quickly becoming one of the best players in the world. We've seen it happen before, but he did it so seamlessly that fans knew this was different.

The Spaniard continued improving, becoming the youngest number one after winning last year's US Open. Not even a full year after that, Alcaraz was confirmed as the top seed at Wimbledon due to him being ranked number one before the event, and he's going to remain number one after the event.

The 20-year-old produced an incredible run at the event to dethrone Wimbledon king Novak Djokovic in the final, beating him in a spectacular 5-set match. The Spaniard was given the underdog mantle this time around, but he proved his seeding justice by stunning everybody, including Djokovic in the final.

Djokovic didn't lose in 10 years on the Centre Court of the event before this match which just speaks to what an achievement this was from Alcaraz. His efforts ensure him the number one rank for a few more weeks as the Spaniard now has 9675 points, almost 1000 more than Novak Djokovic, who is sitting at number two with 8795.

The winner of their Wimbledon matchup was basically confirmed to emerge as the top player in the world, with Alcaraz's victory ensuring him the honour. It's probably only secondary to actually holding the Wimbledon trophy which was the main goal before coming to an event.

He's going to hold the rank for at least a couple of weeks because Djokovic is unlikely to play until the North American swing. Alcaraz won't play either though the proper showdown will happen at the US Open, where Alcaraz is defending 2000 points.
