Kyrgios Asks Fans For Patience After First Match After Injury

The highly anticipated return of Nick Kyrgios to tennis didn't deliver as the Australian struggled and lost his first match.

Nick Kyrgios last played tennis during an exhibition match against Novak Djokovic in Melbourne in the leadup to the Australian Open. A few days after that, the Australian withdrew from the grand slam due to a knee injury that required an intervention due to the swelling.

He later underwent surgery to address the issue and began his rehabilitation with hopes of making a return in Indian Wells. It didn't work out and he had to push back his comeback though he was never seriously going to play the clay season.

Skipping over that part of the season allowed him to better prepare for a comeback so when he announced his return to tennis at the 2023 Stuttgart Open, many were excited to see what kind of Kyrgios we would get.

It wasn't very pretty as the Australian struggled in rallies against a player who is clearly not on his level. The serve was good with 15 aces but outside of that, the injury apparently troubled the Australian. Many observed that the Australian didn't look ready to play the match.

It doesn't bode well for Kyrgios with Wimbledon around the corner. It's hard to imagine that he'll play himself to a good level with a few matches. It certainly won't work if he has 3 quick exits at the event he plans to play but the Australian took to Twitter to address his fans asking for more patience. Time will tell best.

Be patient with me my fans please…. It’s a process to get back to where I was. I know it’s hard for you to see me perform like today, but I need more time and hopefully can get back to where I was.
