Novak Djokovic is only one victory away from making history several times by winning the 2023 Wimbledon, and he's highly motivated to get the job done.
Novak Djokovic is a highly motivated individual. It kind of comes with the territory of being a 36-year-old player who is still arguably the best player on the ATP Tour. It doesn't happen by chance, and it's allowed him to be in a position to make history in different ways on Sunday.
He's currently at the top of the men's Grand Slams leaderboard with 23 trophies, but he could extend that to 24 if he wins. He could also match Roger Federer's eight at Wimbledon while winning his 5th consecutive one. The chance to do all of that makes him highly motivated, but more generally, he's been prioritising winning Grand Slams for a few years now.
Well, it's no secret that Grand Slams are the highest priority for me, the highest goals on my priority list. Every time I start the season, I want to peak at these four tournaments. I try to organize my schedule, training schedule, and my preparation weeks, and all the tournaments, according to these priorities.
All the tournaments that I play are basically leading me up to Grand Slam. I'm really glad that this year, actually last several years, my Grand Slam seasons are amazing. The results are fantastic.
To secure another one, he'll have to down Carlos Alcaraz, who booked the final by beating Daniil Medvedev comfortably. It's a matchup that is difficult for him, but he navigated it rather the last time we saw it at Roland Garros. He won the trophy at that event, and that's the goal this time. It's what he considers 'job done' ultimately.
Yeah, I have a good team of people around me. We do things in a proper way on a daily basis. I think that gives us benefits when we get to the later stages of a Grand Slam. Most of the players are probably exhausted a bit physically, mentally, or maybe they don't feel like they can go a step further.
But for me, I feel that the job is not finished until I lift the trophy - hopefully - and play in the finals of a Grand Slam. I put myself, again, in that position. Of course, I'm very thrilled.
