Alexander Zverev produced a sensational win over Carlos Alcaraz at the 2023 ATP Finals, but he had some issues with the win being branded sensational.

Zverev is a very good tennis player and quite a prideful one. He certainly believes himself to be one of the best players in the world, and he's right. He truly is one of the best players in the world, and he proved it against Alcaraz.

Taking apart the Spaniard's game is not easy but he has a really strong weapon allowing him to do that. The serve was by far the most important shot for him, and he nailed it over and over again.

Even when Alcaraz found some minor changes, Zverev would simply blast another service winner, and the chance was gone. It was a wonderful win for Zverev, but he took exception to it being branded sensational, wanting to remind everybody that he's actually pretty good.

I'm not that bad (laughter). I've beaten good players before. As I said before, after the injury last year, my first season back, to be back with the top eight players, to be back in Turin, is an achievement for me itself in a way. But, of course, now that I'm here, I want to win matches. I'm happy with the start today.
- Zverev on his win

One win doesn't get you to the semi-final, which is Zverev's goal. He'll need another win, and it's a tough matchup coming up against Medvedev. Should he win he's in the semi-final which would be a major achievement for him.

There are some worries about a potential injury sustained against Alcaraz, but the German said he was fine after the match, so we'll see what happens. He's a threat this year due to the conditions, and he actually won the event in 2021.
