'I Watch His Practices, His Movement': Alcaraz On Learning From Rival Djokovic

Carlos Alcaraz wants to be great, and he's looking at other greats as to how they got where they are, hoping to emulate that.

Right now, the most dominant force in tennis is still Novak Djokovic. He won three of four Grand Slams despite generally being a decade older than his rivals. It speaks to his greatness, one that Carlos Alcaraz hopes to reach one day.

He'll need to work very hard to get there because Djokovic works very hard. The Serbian spoke often about the sacrifices he makes for tennis, and Alcaraz is looking at some of those things in the hopes of getting closer to Djokovic as a player.

He spoke to Tennis TV ahead of the 2023 Shanghai Masters about Djokovic, admitting that he watches the Serb and tries to learn from him.

It's difficult to have his nutrition, I heard a bit about that, he's 100% focused to be in a good shape. But I watch his practices, his movement, the way that he plays and tries. He's 100% in every shot, in every practice, in every game, so it's something that I try to bring into my own game.

Alcaraz has been widely described as the best player to come out of his generation, even though it's pretty early. He's certainly going to be great moving forward, but there are some question marks even though some do see his potential as an all-time great player.

Looking at Djokovic as an example is not a bad idea because he's been utterly spectacular at a time when most players start to decline slowly. Most of the time, it's about how the 24-time Grand Slam champion approaches certain things.

The Spaniard has already started to pick and choose his spots in the calendar which is crucial for long-term health, especially since he's already dealt with quite a few injuries.
