Ben Shelton opened up about his recent match against Novak Djokovic at the US Open, saying that he will be back.

Shelton made a solid effort against Novak Djokovic in the US Open semi-final. He didn't win the match, he didn't even win a set, but he certainly did better than most when facing Djokovic. The final set was one which Shelton could have won, and that's all he wanted from the matchup.

He wanted to prove everybody wrong and show that he belonged among the best. He certainly did that, explaining how it looked during a recent GQ Sports feature. He opened up about everything surrounding the match, and there was a lot.

Okay, I may not win this match. But I want this guy to know—I want the crowd to know—that I’m here to play. And that I’m going to be back. When I woke up that morning, I felt the nervousness in my stomach, just knowing that it would be the biggest match I’ve ever played.

The US Open run was a tremendously positive experience for Shelton as he improved upon his Australian Open run, which is a good sign. He's trending in the right direction and improving rapidly, which is all you can hope for as a fan.

I think the two weeks as a whole was a good run for me. A lot of positives to take away for the rest of the year and going into next year. It was really fun playing my final slam of the year here and doing well in front of the American crowd. That's pretty special for me.
