'I Miss It, But You Have To Deal With It': Nadal On Missing Tennis During Long Injury Hiatus

| by Evita Mueller

Rafael Nadal has been away from tennis for pretty much a whole year, and he's missed it, but it's something he simply has to deal with.

After centering most of his life around tennis, not playing for almost a year will obviously leave the Spaniard feeling a type of way. Nadal has been dedicated to the sport from a very young age, and his injury hiatus obviously made him miss playing and competing.

Still, it's simply something he had to overcome. There are plenty of ways Nadal kept himself busy during this injury hiatus, as he's now a father while also being a person with many hobbies like golf.

It kept him quite happy as he slowly worked tennis back into his daily schedule.

I have a theory.. you might miss it when you feel like you can be there, right? But when you feel like you can't play, because physically you can't, you can't miss it. You have to live day by day and I tried to be happy with what I had and I think I achieved that in my everyday life.

Nadal on not being able to play tennis

He's been practicing for a while now to return to the sport next year, but we don't actually know when that will happen. Fans will rejoice whenever it happens, but most importantly for Nadal, it's to be healthy, which will allow him to compete at the level he wants to.

As a generally competitive person, Nadal missed the competing part of tennis most. The injury left him unable to compete in other ways as well, which was frustrating, but he overcame it.

Competition? Ultimately I am a competitive person, but not just in tennis, it cost me not being able to play golf which after all is a way to compete, it cost me not not being able to compete in other areas and, obviously, in tennis, I missed being on the circuit, being able to compete, feeling like a player, going out on the best courts with a full stadium; of course, I miss it, but you have to deal with it.
