Taylor Fritz's girlfriend, influencer Morgan Riddle, hopes that the Netflix tennis series, 'Break Point' does for the sport what 'Drive to Survive' did for Formula One.
Drive to Survive is a series made by Netflix showing the intricacies of Formula One. While the sport is very popular on its own, the show and the way it was done showed it off to lots of people who might not have known much about it.
It basically ushered in a new era for Formula One as its popularity exploded directly as a consequence of that TV series. After that commercial success, Netflix was looking around for another sport that could be featured like that.
The answer was found in tennis, and lots of fans are very curious about it. The premise was simple; players were followed around by crews who documented basically their daily lives on tour.
It was shot over a couple of months, so it shows the full scope of a tennis player's career, not just the matches but also the travel and practice part. It will give fans an insight into some of their favorite players, a type of access that hasn’t been seen before.
It has the potential to make the sport of tennis even more popular; at least, that’s the hope. Fritz was one of those involved, and his girlfriend, Morgan Riddle, was prominently featured as well.
She was asked by a fan on Instagram what she hopes comes out of the series, and she said that she hopes that it does for the sport what Drive to Survive did for Formula One.
"Very [excited about the Netflix special]! I hope it does for the sport what it did for F1."
There is certainly potential for the show to boost tennis' popularity, but there is only so much it could do as tennis is already incredibly popular.
