Eugenie Bouchard managed to play only 14 matches so far this year, but she’s planning on playing a couple more as she signed up for a lower-tier event in Calgary.
Bouchard's is an interesting one as the Canadian emerged as a super-talented player who was destined to become the next successful player on the WTA Tour.
She was 20 when she made a huge run at Wimbledon and up was seemingly the only way she could go. The opposite actually proved true as her career never quite got to that height again, with injuries proving crucial and her own play simply not being good enough to remain on that high of a level.
Even so, the Canadian has been persistent in the face of that. She’s been attempting comebacks a few times in recent years, and while most of the time it goes backward, the Canadian is currently attempting yet another comeback.
She only managed to play 14 matches this year, but she will hopefully add a couple more as she’s going to play at the Calgary Challenger. Her most recent outing was in Mexico, where she played at the WTA 1000 event in Guadalajara and the WTA 125 event in Tampico.
Those outings were good for her to build her way up, but also not special in any way. The season still hasn't ended, so she won’t play that much more, but she clearly hopes to finish off strongly in Calgary on home soil.
She’s excited about playing some tennis in Canada because, realistically, as a Canadian, there aren’t that many chances for her to do so. She’ll try to make the most out of this.
"I'm looking forward to playing at the Calgary National Bank Challenger. I always enjoy playing at home in front of my Canadian tennis fans. I've heard a lot of great things about the Calgary event and can't wait to end my year well."
Danny Da Costa, who is the CEO of the tournament in Calgary, also spoke about Bouchard's participation.
"We are very excited to have a world-class talent such as Eugenie Bouchard, Vasek Pospisil and Sabine Lisicki, as well as emerging talents such as Canadian Gabriel Diallo, Czech Sara Bejlek and French Harold Mayot."
