Serena Williams played her final career match at the 2022 US Open, but that might not be it for her, according to some speculations and her own words.

When Serena Williams announced her retirement earlier this year, many people were quick to wonder how seriously she meant it. There is a good reason for this, as most tennis fans are unable to comprehend that she would be retiring.

Williams herself has used rather unusual language about her retirement from tennis. She didn’t specifically call it retirement but rather an evolution away from the sport, and she actually hinted at possibly returning to the sport in the future.

While she did go through with her initial plan of retiring at the US Open, it seems like she enjoys toying with the thought of coming back to the sport. She recently dropped more hints that it could happen, which created headlines.

On the Tennis Channel, the resident panel discussed her possible return to the sport, and fellow player Christopher Eubanks certainly would enjoy seeing it happen. He even joked that Williams could return in doubles and carry him to a Grand Slam.

"I hope so. I'd love to see her [Serena Williams] back in a tournament again. Maybe that's playing doubles, maybe that's a little mixed doubles. Give me a call if that's what you're looking to do. I'm sure we can try to get some Grand Slams at some point with you carrying me."

It’s not impossible that Williams would return to tennis, even though it becomes more unlikely with each day. There shouldn’t be any doubt that she could actually come back and win again.

Singles might be a bit too much, but doubles and mixed doubles are certainly where she could have some success like Martina Navratilova did. Time will tell whether any of these hints are serious or not, but there is always a chance.
