Federer Reveals Why He Doesn't Play Any Exhibitions Yet

Roger Federer retired last year but hoped to continue playing in an exhibition format however he's not ready yet.

Roger Federer's Laver Cup retirement proved a very emotional affair as all of his great rivals from the ATP Tour were there with him. The Swiss legend bid farewell to professional tennis but always underlined his desire to stay in shape and play exhibition tennis around the world to properly say goodbye to his fans.

He never got a chance to do a farewell tour though his final career match happened at Wimbledon so it was kind of fitting. The plan to continue playing is still in place however in a talk with the media in Halle, Federer revealed that his body is not ready. If it was he'd be playing right now.

If the body was in top shape, I would probably play a few exhibitions. I still go to the gym four or five times a week and try to get my body back into shape with my knee. That's why I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

While he's not playing actively, Federer is still involved in the sport. Just recently he was in Halle for a special ceremony to honour him. He will be in Vancouver for the Laver Cup as well as in Shanghai for another special ceremony.

There is very little chance that Federer leaves tennis forever however his playing days could be over for real. He was asked in Halle whether he steps on a tennis court for some action and he confirmed that he does, but only with his children.

If he still plays tennis: Only with the children. I've never booked a court with friends and said, Come on, let's go train now. But I'm often on the court with the children. I love playing with them.
