Djokovic Loses His First Set At 2024 Wimbledon But Keeps Dream Alive With Another Win

Novak Djokovic played his second match at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships and won, even though not comfortably.

After cruising through his first-round match, Djokovic faced a bit more opposition in this match. It's only natural because he faced a native player who had the backing of the crowd, especially as a huge underdog.

Jacob Fearnley is a name to remember because the Brit showed a decent level on grass this year, having played a lot of matches on it. He's had some good wins, and if he can bring this type of level to other surfaces, he'll be a name to watch.

In this match, he made a valiant effort to remain competitive with the 24-time major winner for much of the match. Was this the best performance from the Serbian? Of course not, but that's part of the way he plays tennis.

He plays exactly how much he needs to play early on and rises his level with every game. In this match, Djokovic played at a pretty decent level. He served relatively well and hit the ball pretty precisely from the baseline.

Fearnley played fairly well behind his serve but wasn't as precise as Djokovic. He had more unforced errors than winners, which is what he lacked to really make this match complicated.

The best set Fearnley played was the third set because he managed to hit a lot of winners while not ruining his chances with unforced errors. It was also a rather timid set from Djokovic.

The fourth one was equally complicated because the Brit pushed really hard, but he didn't manage to break through this time around. His level dipped a bit towards the end, and Djokovic used the first break chance he got in that set to make it 6-5, after which he won the match 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. Djokovic, for his part, played well, so it seems like the knee is holding up well so far.
