Djokovic Reveals He Used 'Last Year's Circumstances As Fuel For This Year'

Novak Djokovic was in an interesting spot at this time last year, but fast forward to now, he's in a pretty good spot.

When Novak Djokovic smashed everybody at the ATP Finals last year, he wasn't sure where he would be able to play in 2023. Some places still had restrictions, so he missed the Indian Wells and the Miami Open this year.

He wasn't sure which events he'd play, and there was just so much uncertainty. The picture looks a lot clearer now after he dominated the Tour once more, winning three out of four Grand Slams. There is one more match left in Turin as he hopes to go back-to-back at the event.

After his win over Carlos Alcaraz at the 2023 ATP Finals, he reflected on everything that happened in the past 12 months, comparing where he's now to where he was last year at this time.

I guess last year's circumstances I used as a fuel for this year. Had an almost perfect season, Grand Slam season. That mattered the most to me. Ended up the year as No. 1 in the world, reached really all the objectives that I had, broke many records, made history of the sport.

Of course, I'm thrilled with the season. But one more match to go. Hopefully I can crown the season with another win

The season is not yet over and won't be over after this event, either. He'll play at the Davis Cup next week, and while that's his main goal, the Serbian wants to win it all. He wants to beat Sinner on Sunday, and he also wants to lead the country to tennis glory once more.

He's been preparing for weeks, and it's showing. He's dosing himself in most matches, going to a level higher if he needs to; that sudden switch proved Alcaraz's undoing.
