Novak Djokovic was asked about keeping track of unforced errors and his answer turned out to be of a predicting nature.

Ahead of the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters, Djokovic was asked if he trusts the number of unforced errors and the way that they are recorded. In his answer, the Serb discussed the potential for artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize the way statistics are gathered and analyzed in the world of professional tennis and on the ATP Tour.

As the sport continues to embrace cutting-edge technologies, such as electronic line calling, Djokovic's vision for AI-powered data analysis promises to bring greater accuracy and efficiency to the game.

"I think eventually we're going to have artificial intelligence doing that, so I think it's just a matter of time. And I think probably it will be more accurate in terms of your point [accuracy of unforced errors]."

The Serbian believes that AI's rapid advancements and increasing integration into daily life make it the ideal solution for transforming tennis data management. One area where AI could significantly impact tennis is in the measurement of unforced errors. Djokovic suggests that AI-driven systems will improve the accuracy of these figures, providing a more reliable insight into the player's performance.

"I think very very soon, considering that we live in a such technological era where artificial intelligence is taking over many things, I don't see a reason why data wouldn't be something where we would use that."

But artificial intelligence has much more space in the sport than just counting errors. Beyond accuracy, AI's potential in tennis extends to areas like injury prevention, player development, and strategy. Machine learning algorithms could analyze historical data and match footage to identify patterns, enabling coaches and players to make more informed decisions on the court.

Moreover, the use of AI in tennis could revolutionize fan engagement, offering real-time analysis and predictive insights during live matches. This new era of data-driven storytelling would deepen audience understanding of the game, creating a more immersive and interactive spectator experience.
