Coco Gauff isn't really bothered by the fact that there are no women's matches being scheduled for the night session at Roland Garros.
Every tournament creates its own schedule and system for how it divides the schedule. At Roland Garros, there is one night session match at the Court Philippe Chatrier.
Other tournaments, which have multiple night matches, can make it equal for male and female players, scheduling one men's and one women's match for the night session.
Since there's only one night match at Roland Garros, the tournament organizers might face a dilemma of which match to schedule for the night session.
So far this year, there hasn't been a single women's match schedule for the night session, which is why many fans and journalists became outraged, suggesting that men and women don't receive the same opportunities to promote their craft in Paris.
Iga Swiatek was asked about the issue, saying that she wasn't bothered by it. Gauff made similar comments, saying that most of the players wouldn't want to play at that time anyway.
"I think here is a unique topic because there is only one slot at 8:15. To be honest, I don’t think any girl... I mean, prove me wrong, but I don’t think anyone wants to play after the 8:15 match. I don’t know what the other girls would think, but I think most people would rather play before that."
During her press conference, Gauff explained that tennis players are not interested to play late at night. Therefore, she personally isn't really bothered by the fact that women don't get to play at night.
"Maybe there’s a chance to put someone at 6:30 or 7:00. I think if there is only gonna be one match at 8:15, maybe there could be a women’s match. But if they wanna start the night session at 8:15, I’m sure most girls on tour would rather not play after a men’s match and have to go on at 11:00 or 12:00."
"I think it’s just tournament to tournament. This tournament, this seems to be what they want. But most tournaments do have the two matches, one starting at 7:00 and one afterwards. I can’t really complain. I think it’s just up to the tournament, honestly."
So far, Gauff has cruised through the Roland Garros draw. She beat her first two opponents without losing a set, and in the third round, the American will take on Marie Bouzkova.
