Novak Djokovic wasn't 100% healthy in his last match at Roland Garros, and he addressed the concerns after his win.
Djokovic won his first two matches at this year's Roland Garros without losing a set. He first beat Mackenzie McDonald, and he also outplayed Corentin Moutet in the second round.
But during his second-round match against the French player, the 38-year-old took a medical timeout, addressing an issue with blisters on his foot.
It's an uncomfortable problem that can bother tennis players every now and then, and having to deal with blisters while attempting to win his 25th Grand Slam title certainly doesn't help Djokovic.
After the match, he was asked about the issue, but it seems that the three-time French Open champion is not concerned by the problem at all.
"The recovery time is not much longer, I feel like. I mean, I’m pretty fit at the moment. I don’t feel like I have any major issues. Although it took me almost an hour to deal with the blister and the bleeding that I had. So that was not really a pleasant process."
"But I don’t think it’s going to be an issue for me to recover. [The] good thing about Slams, obviously you have a day in between, so plenty of time to recover and get ready for [the] next one."
Djokovic, like the rest of the players competing at Roland Garros, will be in Paris on Saturday, when the city's biggest football club, Paris Saint-Germain, will play in the final of the Champions League.
The final won't be played in the French capital. It will be played at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, but Djokovic, like many other tennis players who are football fans, will be watching. That's why he was asked who he would support, with the Serbian player delighting the French fans by saying PSG.
"It’s going to be PSG that I will support. I will definitely watch it if I’m not playing [the] night session. Yeah, that will be nice. For your information, Roland Garros schedule..."
During his press conference, Djokovic also spoke about playing under a closed roof. It's not something that bothers him, quite the opposite. He is the most experienced player on the ATP Tour, and adjusting to different conditions is something he can gain an edge in over his rivals.
"It’s nothing we, as tennis players, aren’t used to day after day. We know that this constant adaptation exists, that every day can be completely different. Clay is a ‘living’ surface, so to speak: it responds and reacts to any change in temperature, weather, wind, everything. You have to be constantly alert and flexible enough to adapt."
"It works the same for both of us, and it’s demanding, no doubt about it. It’s something we’re also used to in Paris; the weather is quite unpredictable. It can be very cold or very hot, which affects the bounce of the ball and how it flies through the air. It also depends on who you’re playing against. You have to be ready for anything."
Djokovic's next match at Roland Garros will be against Austria's Filip Misolic, who stunned Denis Shapovalov to set up the meeting with the Serbian legend.
