Novak Djokovic may find it challenging to concentrate at Roland Garros after announcing a deeply concerning situation involving a team member.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion's team was in the headlines before the 2025 French Open after he and Andy Murray decided to end their coaching relationship, which had started at the 2025 Australian Open.
Djokovic is working with Dusan Vemic and Boris Basnjakovic in Paris, two men he knows well. Players often gravitate towards familiar faces when they stop working with someone and need some assistance.
Physio Miljan Amanovic has worked with Djokovic for many years, and the pair are close friends. He was the former ATP world No. 1's primary physio for several seasons before stepping back, but stayed linked to Djokovic.
Although Claudio Zimaglia is now the Serbian's full-time physio, Amanovic has continued to work with him in a part-time capacity. He also carries out roles at the Novak Tennis Center in Belgrade.
In his press conference after beating Corentin Moutet at Roland Garros, Djokovic disclosed the concerning news about Amanovic undergoing surgery in the hospital, and that the situation remains serious.
“Unfortunately, Miljan is in the hospital. He had a serious situation today and underwent surgery. I wouldn’t want to go into more detail than that. We’re all very concerned."
Djokovic's desire to protect Amanovic's privacy and avoid thinking about the situation as much as possible is entirely understandable. Hopefully, Amanovic will be okay and make a full recovery from his surgery.
The 10-time Australian Open winner is close to several of his current and former team members. Djokovic and Murray's split was entirely amicable, and the tennis legend said he felt the pair were closer after working together.
Goran Ivanisevic, who coached Djokovic for almost five years until March 2024, is considered a family friend after their work together. The 2001 Wimbledon champion is particularly credited with helping Djokovic improve his serve.
Boris Becker is another former coach with whom Djokovic remains close. He publicly offered his support and visited the German when he was sentenced to prison for tax evasion in 2022.
Djokovic's quest for a record 25th Grand Slam crown remains alive after his win against Moutet. Some fans questioned the move to schedule that match on Court Suzanne Lenglen, arguing it was disrespectful to the most statistically successful player ever.
However, the three-time winner at Roland Garros insisted he had no problem with not playing on the biggest court. Djokovic admitted to enjoying the atmosphere on Court Suzanne Lenglen and thought there were more kids in the crowd.
One man who recently received harsh criticism was Alexander Zverev. Serena Williams' former coach, Rennae Stubbs, launched a rant against the world No. 3 after being enraged by his comments that accused Lorenzo Musetti of being a defensive player.
Stubbs said Zverev was more defensive than Musetti on the forehand side and stunningly called him a "pu**y". She also said he will never secure a Grand Slam title without changing his current mindset.
