Novak Djokovic isn't thinking about a potential calendar slam ahead of the Roland Garros final even though it remains a dream.
Novak Djokovic had a really good chance to complete the calendar slam in 2021 after winning the Australian Open, the French Open, and Wimbledon. He stood in the final against Daniil Medvedev at the US Open, but the Russian denied him the dream with a superb performance that remains the best he's ever had.
The Serbian will contest the Roland Garros final this year after besting Carlos Alcaraz in four sets. Having won the Australian Open, the calendar slam dream is still on the table, especially since he'll be favoured to win both on Sunday in Paris and in London a month from now. It's a dream for him but it's not something he is thinking about.
The calendar slam is really far. But maybe it won't be that far if I win on Sunday. But let's see. You know, I'm not thinking about calendar slam. I'm thinking really just to win another Grand Slam title here on Sunday, and I'm so close. I know it.
Securing that record-breaking 23rd would be a major thing for Djokovic and it's what he's thinking about right now. If he wins Roland Garros, then he'll start thinking about Wimbledon. If he wins that too then he'll think about the US Open simply avoiding dreaming too far ahead.
He's confident about the first of those having had the experience of winning a grand slam as opposed to Casper Ruud who never did it despite playing in two finals.
Experience on my side, but does it win matches? I don't think so. I just have to recover well, be prepared for another long battle, and, you know, after the finals, if I win, let's talk about history (smiling).
