Djokovic Is Oldest But Also Youngest Roland Garros Winner: How Is It Possible

Novak Djokovic has achieved many great things in life but rewriting the rules of time might be the newest one.

If you ever watched Doctor Who you'll know what a Time Lord is. They don't exist yet the title of this article might suggest that Djokovic is actually defying time. How is it possible? Well, it's a combination of factors.

It basically shows his greatness while also demonstrating how the newest generations of tennis players are a bit lacking in the greatness department. By winning Roland Garros recently, Novak Djokovic became the oldest Roland Garros champion ever.

He was exactly 36 years and 6 days old when he did it. That beat out Rafael Nadal narrowly as the Spaniard was 35 years and 11 months and 9 days old when he won the event last year. That part is clear and not hard to comprehend but in the long line of freaky Novak Djokovic oddities, this one might actually be the weirdest one.

He's also currently the youngest player to have won Roland Garros. It makes sense when you actually unwind it. In the past 15+ years, Roland Garros was mostly won by Rafael Nadal. He has 14 of them and the only other players in that time span that won the event outside of Djokovic are Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka.

All three of them are actually older than Djokovic as are all the champions that won the event before the Big Three came around. So that means that no Roland Garros champion is younger than Djokovic. He's the youngest at 36. Funnily enough, he's also the oldest ever Roland Garros champion doing it at the same age - 36.

Isn't that something? It may probably change soon, perhaps even next year but it speaks to many things at the same time. It speaks to the greatness and longevity of him and the other big three players. It also speaks to the newer generations that have yet to dethrone him properly. It's not like he didn't promise it.
