Djokovic Hits Out At Fans That 'Disresepcted' Him At Davis Cup

Novak Djokovic was heckled by British fans during most of his match against Cameron Norrie at the 2023 Davis Cup Finals, and it continued after the match.

It was a pretty tense match against Cameron Norrie at the Davis Cup for Djokovic. These two have a bit of history, and there was plenty of support coming from the stands. The British fans are quite passionate and heckled Djokovic for much of it.

It continued after the match as well, with Djokovic having to step in during his post-match interview, telling the crowd to shut up. On the one hand, it was great to see because that's the type of atmosphere we've been missing from this competition.

Historically, the Davis Cup was played on the home soil of one of the nations, and things like this always happened. The atmosphere was electric, and it's very much missed with this neutral ground format.

On the other hand, it wasn't a pleasant experience for the Serbian, and after the match, Djokovic addressed it.

Well, the entire match pretty much. Disrespect, but again, that's something I'm kind of have to be prepared for. You know, in the Davis Cup, it's normal that sometimes fans step over the line, but, you know, in that sometimes fans step over the line, but, you know, in the heat of the moment, you react too, and you, in a way, how can I say, show that you don't allow this kind of behavior.

According to Djokovic, fans are entitled to do whatever they want, but he, too, has a right to say whatever he wants, and that's why he did it.

They can do whatever they want, but I'm going to respond to that. That's what happened. And in the end, for whoever was there, you saw, I was trying to talk and they were purposely starting to play the drums so that I don't talk and they were trying to annoy me the entire match. So, yeah, we had a little bit of a chat in the end (smiling).
