The most anticipated match-up at Roland Garros would be a match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic and we could get it before the final.
Alcaraz taking on Djokovic in the final of Roland Garros would be a very fitting end to a grand slam as they are the two biggest favourites for it. Unfortunately for tennis fans, it would not be a final because Novak Djokovic will be the 3rd seed at Roland Garros with Alcaraz being number one.
Medvedev's recent surge allowed him to rise all the way up to number two on the rankings and secure the second seed at the event. Djokovic dropped down to number 3 after a very lacklustre clay season so far that saw him battle an elbow injury among other things.
It's unfortunate when we see these matchups earlier in the event and it happened last year when Nadal played Djokovic in the quarter-final. We may see it this year with Alcaraz and Djokovic but in the end, fans might appreciate seeing the matchup at all. Patrick McEnroe talked about it the seedings at grand slams not too long ago pointing towards that Djokovic - Nadal we referenced earlier.
When Rafa faced Djoker in the quarters, I didn't like that but they're not going to change.
Perhaps we see a seeding system similar to Wimbledon where players are ranked based on how they do on grass which will likely see Djokovic be the number one seed this year even if he's not number one in the world at that moment.
The final we might get is Alcaraz against Daniil Medvedev if they both play superb tennis which is likely after the recent breakout of Medvedev on clay. Their match earlier this year in Indian Wells was a bit underwhelming as Alcaraz cruised. Perhaps a clay one would deliver more excitement.
