Grigor Dimitrov continued his amazing form in recent weeks by downing Hubert Hurkacz in three sets for the Paris Masters semi-final.
Grigor Dimitrov has lowkey put together one of the best seasons he's had in his career. He's won a lot of matches this year, 42 so far, which is the most he won since 2017. It's the best we've seen him play in a very long time, and it kind of went unnoticed.
The recent weeks have been particularly solid, with a semi-final run in Shanghai, a good showing in Vienna, and now a really good week in Paris. He bested Medvedev earlier in the week and now added this great win over Hurkacz.
The opening set was amazing for Dimitrov, who needed only seven games to win it. Hurkacz has played a lot of tennis lately as he chases a spot in Turin, but eventually, that workload was going to catch up with him.
It did in this match, particularly in the opening set, where he was all over the place. Hurkacz doesn't generally spray too many errors like that but he didn't serve well and Dimitrov put a lot of pressure on him.
He was much better in the second set, flipping everything in his game. He served well with 8 aces and had 16 winners with only 3 unforced errors.
It was a much better effort compared to the opening set, and it resulted in the 6-4 set win. Dimitrov never really dropped his level all too much but he was outplayed in the second set. The final one saw him break first, and that's all he needed.
Hurkacz was pretty good in the final set outside of that one game which Dimitrov played perfectly. The final score was 6-1 4-6 6-4 for the Bulgarian, who finished with 9 aces and 30 winners.
