Belinda Bencic hasn't played since September, and she won't be playing for a while longer as she announced her pregnancy.
It's been an interesting year for Belinda Bencic, who had some solid results over the year but struggled to really put together as strong as of a year many expected her to.
She's a former world number four on the WTA Tour whose talent is certainly good enough to do that again. The Swiss player was still pretty solid, getting to as high as world number 12 last year and hovered around there for much of this year.
Her last event was the San Diego Open, after which she stopped playing with many wondering what was going on. She didn't really announce any injuries, but now we know.

Expecting our little miracle soon! We can’t wait to meet you.
We don't know how far along Bencic is, but considering that she stopped playing in the last two months, she's probably a few months in. It doesn't really matter as long as the pregnancy goes well and Bencic returns to tennis.
It might happen sometime next year, but for now, the 26-year-old will focus on the new chapter in her life. Bencic and her partner started dating in 2018 when she was 21 and he was 36.
The 41-year-old has served as her fitness trainer ever since then and helped her achieve her best career ranking in the meantime. Now they'll become parents, and he'll have some work to do to prepare Bencic for a return to tennis.
Whether that happens sometime next year or in 2025, we'll see. She will join the likes of Naomi Osaka and Elina Svitolina as mothers on Tour and hopefully follow the Ukranian's path of great success.
