The Speed Demon, Alex de Minaur, was rather speedy in his trashing of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at the 2023 Canadian Open in Toronto.

The Australian is enjoying the best run of his career at an ATP 1000 event as he'll contest the final after taking down Davidovich Fokina. These players know each other really well, they're both long-time residents of Spain and have been familiar with each other for years.

They do play contrasting styles, though, as Davidovich Fokina plays a very aggressive style where he often goes for some pretty crazy shots. It's been going well for him this week, with some impressive wins. De Minaur is more of a player that utilizes his speed to track down balls and builds rallies patiently.

In this clash of styles, it was the more calmer style that prevailed. The opening set was pretty convincing as the Demon won it 6-1 with a pretty balanced approach. He had two aces, three winners, and three unforced errors, nothing too crazy.

The Spaniard was much more aggressive, but it didn't work. Yes, he had more winners than de Minaur (5), but he also had nine more unforced errors (12). That's not going to cut it for an ATP 1000 semi-final. The second set didn't bring too much difference as de Minaur found an early break, but we saw quite a bit of excitement towards the end of the second set.

Starting at 3-0 for de Minaur, we saw six breaks in a row as neither player managed to hold serve. It didn't matter much as de Minaur got it done 6-3 in the end, with the final score being 6-1 6-3. Simply not good enough from Davidovich Fokina against a very stable de Minaur, who will face either Tommy Paul or Jannik Sinner in the final. That match will be played later today.
