"Complete lunacy he can't compete as of now" - Isner on Djokovic's US Open participation

Novak Djokovic can’t enter the United States legally as of now, and fellow ATP player John Isner called it a complete lunacy.

Isner is a very respected tennis player, having competed on the ATP Tour for many years. He’s generally avoided too much controversy during that time, but he’s also outspoken about his views.

He’s had some interesting comments over the years on several topics, not shying away from voicing his opinion when needed. When it comes to his most recent comments, he’d likely find many tennis fans agreeing with him.

As of now, Djokovic can’t enter the United States of America legally because he’s a foreign national who isn’t vaccinated. According to the rules set out by the government, those individuals can’t enter the country.

Unless that changes, Djokovic will be forced to miss the US Open, much like he missed the Sunshine Double, consisting of the Indian Wells Open and the Miami Open, earlier this year.

Isner finds that rather ludicrous as he responded to a question on Twitter expressing his views. According to the American player, the 21-time major winner should be allowed to enter the country and compete at the events there.

"Yes. Complete lunacy he can't compete as of now."

He’d likely find many agreeing with him, but a country’s rules have to be respected. However, they are. Isner did add a mocking hashtag (#science) to his response, which kind of shows where he likely lands on the topic.

Having one of the best players missing the event isn’t ideal for the sport or the US Open as an event. In fairness, Djokovic was aware of the consequences of not getting vaccinated and as he confirmed it in interviews before, he was willing to suffer the consequences of that. This is one of those.
