Casper Ruud comes back to win against Berrettini to lift Gstaad trophy

Casper Ruud was in a tricky spot after the first set but he endured all of it to come back and win against Matteo Berrettini 4-6 7-6(4) 6-2.

A very highly anticipated final was played in Gstaad and we had two former champions of this event going against each other. Both played well at this event but Berrettini was much more firm because the conditions work so well in his favour. The high altitude is something that boosts his serve and similar to Madrid, Gstaad offers just that.

It was a fairly solid start for both but eventually, Berrettini was able to take the break 3-2. He faced 15-40 on his serve but good serving allowed him to battle his way out of that uncomfortable situation. From there it was a rather calm match as both were comfortable on their own serve with Berrettini winning the opening one with 6-4.

The 2nd set featured strong play by both with neither having many chances. Berrettini was still slightly better failing to use break points in two different games. On his own serve, the Italian largely dominated without giving up a single break point. We went into the tiebreak with Berrettini having the slight advantage because of his serve but it was Ruud that took it 7-4 with some stellar play.

The final set was a complete masterclass from Ruud who proved himself once more as a clay specialist breaking the game of Berrettini apart for the 6-2 finish. Back-to-back trophies for Ruud in Gstaad who got his 9th career trophy.
