Carlos Alcaraz will battle Novak Djokovic for the year-end No. 1 on the ATP Tour in the coming weeks as he looks to finish ahead of the Serbian once more.
Alcaraz finished as the year-end No. 1 last year despite being injured and not playing at the ATP Finals. He received the honour in Turin and hopes to do it again, though this time around, he'll also like to compete at the event.
Djokovic holds the number one rank for now after earning a huge boost at the US Open by winning the event. He got 2,000 points while Alcaraz lost most of his flipping the standings. Djokovic has a huge lead over the Spaniard, over 3,000 points, and he looks destined to finish the year as No. 1, but we might see a battle.
Djokovic defends 250 points from winning the Tel Aviv Open, 500 points from winning the Astana Open, 600 points from reaching the Paris Masters final, and 1,500 points from winning the ATP Finals without losing a match.
On the other hand, Alcaraz defends only 360 points until the end of the year, and with two Masters coming up and the Finals, he has plenty of events to try and dethrone Djokovic. Noted tennis coach Darren Cahill is really excited about the upcoming battle, talking about it on the Advantage Connors Podcast.
Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic more than likely, I'm not sure how far away Medvedev is at No. 3, but feels like, he and Novak Djokovic are in a race for No. 1 and 2 at the moment to the year-end ranking. So I'm sure it's gonna be really a privilege to be able to watch those two guys fight for that, No. 1 year-end ranking.
He also praised the team around Alcaraz, who is still only 20 years old. He's got a great coach, a great team, and a support system that allows him to focus solely on tennis to become the best player possible.
So he could see it from a young age that this kid had something special. So he's got good people around him. They will work on the right things. They'll make sure that they get him physically ready for a good finish to the year.
