Bryan Shelton, the father of Ben Shelton, has retired from College coaching to become his coach and follow him around the ATP Tour.

Ben Shelton announced himself to the world with a late push on the challenger tour last year winning three of the events in a row. That push allowed him to enter the Top 100 for the first time in his carer which then allowed him to enter the Australian Open.

That event will be one that he'll remember for a while as he made a surprise run at the event properly proving himself among the best in the world. His goal is to become world number one and he's certainly got what it takes to be the most electrifying talent from the US in recent years.

With his tremendous rise this year and promising performances on clay, Shelton needed a permanent coach. Well, he got his coach. It will be his father Bryan who left his position as the tennis coach for the men's tennis team at the University of Florida. Ben confirmed the news with a post on social media.

My dad retired from collegiate coaching today. Congrats on everything you’ve accomplished in your 24 years out there. This isn’t a career that’s defined by championships and accolades, but by the people impacted and lives changed.

You showed up to work every day and gave a perfect effort. That being said, the dream team is back together baby. Can’t wait to have you out on tour with me, and see what we can accomplish together.

Bryan Shelton is a former player who spent 8 years as a professional tennis player. He has a career record of 104-137 with two trophies and a career-high ranking of 55 achieved in 1992. Let's see how this will unfold though parent-child combinations have a mixed record historically.
