Andy Murray Dismisses Wimbledon Retirement Talks: 'I Have An Idea'

| by Evita Mueller

Andy Murray's run at this year's Wimbledon will be followed closely as it technically could be the final time he plays at the event.

Murray played a lot of grass tennis leading up to Wimbledon in order to better prepare for it. He won 10 matches in a row at an ATP Challenger Tour, before losing to De Minaur. He didn't play as many matches simply to get in shape, he wanted to get a seeding spot at Wimbledon but he needed to beat De Minaur in order to get it done.

Ultimately the Brit won't be a seed at Wimbledon but that doesn't really diminish the importance of the event for him. Some have suggested that this year's event could be the final one of his career though Murray hopes that it's not.

I hope not, but you never know. It's why athletes need to make the most of it while they're still able to because if I was to have another big injury or if something happened to the metal hip that would be me finished. I wouldn't try to come back from another operation or major surgery again so I want to keep playing a bit longer.

Suggestions about Murray retiring from tennis have been going on for years even though some pointed out that he doesn't really need to retire. Murray seems of a similar mind because he's playing rather solid tennis, he's still enjoying it and he's healthy.

Another big injury would finish him off but for now, he's ready to play and he wants to play so he will play. He knows it's not going to last forever and someday we'll know which Wimbledon will be his final one but he doesn't think it's this one.

I know it's not going to be going on forever but I have an idea of when I would like to finish and it's not this year's Wimbledon.
