Carlos Alcaraz is looking to end the dominance of Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon and he hopes the crowd will back him in that regard.
Besides being a fabulous tennis player who is entertaining tennis crowds around the world, Alcaraz is also a rising fan favourite. There is something magnetic about the Spaniard which draws people in and might just be the joy he exudes while playing the sport.
Always ready to compete, always ready to go further, the Spaniard rarely leaves any doubt about his effort on a tennis court. His exciting playstyle certainly boosts that experience for the fans while the bright smile sells it as genuine. He's gotten a lot of love in London during the Cinch Championship and he hopes that it translates to Wimbledon.
I hope so. As I said, I felt the love from the people since day one, and for me it's really, really important I hope in Wimbledon to feel the same energy, the same love that I felt during this week.
Should we see him take on Djokovic in London there won't be much doubt about whom the crowd will support. The Serbian has had a rocky relationship with the crowd in London and he certainly wouldn't get more love than Alcaraz in that match. Alcaraz will need it if he hopes to overthrow Djokovic as the king of Wimbledon.
You know, I hope it will help me, you know, to get through the rounds in Wimbledon. But I saw as well that Djokovic has never lost a match in the Centre Court since I think 2013 when he lost against Andy, so it's 10 years without losing a match in the Centre Court of Wimbledon. I hope to have the crowd behind me to have chances to change that statistics.
