Andrey Rublev vs Hubert Hurkacz: 2023 Shanghai Masters - Preview & Prediction

by Evita Mueller

The 2023 Shanghai Masters is going to conclude with an exciting final between Andrey Rublev and Hubert Hurkacz.

Andrey Rublev played some amazing tennis in the past ten days to make his way to another ATP 1000 final. He won the first one he played earlier this year in Monte-Carlo and now hopes to add another trophy to his tally.

It's going to be tough as he's facing Hubert Hurkacz, a really strong hard-court player who thrives in these conditions. It's an interesting matchup on paper that already delivered some amazing matches in the past and this one promises to be another one.

Both are in form and playing great with a really solid track record in finals, so buckle up, it's going to be a ride.

Head-to-head:

We saw them play four times so far, with the most recent one quite a while ago. It happened last year in Indian Wells and was an easy win for Rublev. The score is actually 2-2, but most of these matches happened a while ago.

We haven't seen them play recently, but both are playing really well, so it's mostly going to come down to who plays better on that given day.

Prediction:

Predicting that will be quite tough because both are capable of swinging the matchup onto their side. Hurkacz's serve is incredible and will frustrate Rublev quite a bit because the Russian does tend to do that. Korda didn't see a single break point against Hurkacz, and that won't make Rublev happy at all.

On the other hand, we have Rublev, who is spectacular from the baseline and has a clear advantage against Hurkacz, who will struggle to outhit the Russian consistency. So what gives? Well, Hurkacz's serve will either gift him a win or ruin him.

Prediction: Andrey Rublev to win in two sets.
