Carlos Alcaraz revealed that Rafael Nadal sent him a good luck message before the Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz played the biggest match of his career at the recently concluded Wimbledon Championships. It was the final against Novak Djokovic who was unbeaten on the Centre Court for 10 years but Alcaraz ultimately beat him. It's the first time he defeated Novak Djokovic on the Grand Slam level, and it's a very meaningful win for him.
It's meaningful in many ways, but mostly because he proved to himself that he can defeat the Serbian, something which was called into question after the Roland Garros disappointment. It was also a very unlikely win for the Spaniard, who had serious doubts about his level on grass even after booking the final in London.
Ultimately it worked out as he kept believing in himself even with a shroud of doubt looming over him. Speaking with MARCA after winning the trophy, Alcaraz revealed that Nadal actually sent him a good luck message before the final, something the youngster appreciates very much.
Yes, yes, he sent me a message. First he sent it to me to wish me luck for the final and I appreciate it. That someone like him, an idol from my childhood and who continues to be one, sends you strength and luck for the most important moment of your life, is something to admire.
Whether it really had any impact on Alcaraz is hard to prove, but having support from people he looked up to is always nice. Nadal obviously sent him a congratulatory message after the final as well though he wasn't the only one.
Many famous people congratulated the Spaniard as he once again proved to be quite beloved by fans around the world.
