Alcaraz Sees Massive Social Media Following Boom After Wimbledon Win

Carlos Alcaraz's stock on social media is rising rapidly after defeating Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Wimbledon final.

The Spanish phenom is closing in on 1 million new followers on Instagram - less than 48 hours after his Wimbledon triumph. Carlos Alcaraz has now amassed 3.6 million followers as of today, July 18, making him the fourth most-followed active tennis player on Instagram.

Alcaraz sits behind Nick Kyrgios at 4.1 million, Novak Djokovic, who he beat in the final at 13.3 million, and Rafael Nadal, who is the most followed tennis player at 19.2 million. With casual tennis fans digesting Alcaraz's exploits, his rise to prominence should easily see him eclipse Kyrgios in the coming days but is still a long way off from Djokovic and Nadal.

Before last month's French Open, Alcaraz was in sixth spot of active tennis players with a massive following on Instagram with 2.4 million followers. However, in the span of two months, he has surpassed WTA stars such as Naomi Osaka (currently on a hiatus) and Emma Raducanu (injured), to sit in fourth place, netting over 1 million followers in that period.

Alcaraz's pinned post of him kissing the Wimbledon men's trophy has also attracted the highest number of engagements on his Instagram account. It has garnered over 1.6 million likes, which is more than his other pinned post when he won the US Open last summer (that one is slightly over 1 million in total likes).

Among those congratulating Alcaraz include fellow pros and other famous celebrities, some of whom witnessed him topple Djokovic in Sunday's final inside Centre Court. It was also a case of double celebration as Alcaraz solidified his top spot in the ATP Rankings with 9675 points - which is almost 900 points more than Djokovic in second place with 8795.
