Carlos Alcaraz is in Paris for the 2024 Roland Garros and provided a very positive injury update ahead of the French Open comeback.
Alcaraz hasn't played much tennis this clay season, and all of that was because of a forearm injury, which turned out to be more serious than initially thought. He missed the Monte-Carlo Masters, the Barcelona Open, and the Italian Open because of it.
He played at the Madrid Open but didn't quite look like himself as he played with a reserved forehand. He's not the same player unless he can unleash that forehand, and he wasn't able to do that in the Spanish capital.
Now, he will try to show his forehand in full swing at the Roland Garros, and he's already in Paris, and lately, it's been going well, as he also said in an interview with PA News Agency.
"Things are going well lately, I’m really happy with all the progress. It was difficult for me because at the beginning the doctors told me it’s not going to be really serious, it’s just going to take a few days, from five to seven, and it wasn’t that time."
"I was dealing with the pain, with how to focus my practices to the injury. Playing the Mutua Madrid Open not at my 100 per cent was difficult as well but I’m really happy that I had the chance to play."
The Spaniard grew up on the clay courts and loves to play on it. Missing all the events that he missed was really painful for him, but if he could go all the way to Paris, the somewhat cautious approach in recent weeks would be worth it.
"Missing Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Rome, tournaments that are really beautiful for me, was tough but things are going very, very good lately and that’s all that matters. I think I’ll be at my 100 per cent."
