Alcaraz 'Keeping Eye' On 'Still The Best' Djokovic After Wimbledon Win

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic for the first time on a Grand Slam level recently, but he's keeping an eye on him.

Keeping an eye on Djokovic is very smart because the Spanaird will battle the Serbian for the number one rank until the end of this year. Alcaraz finished world number one on the ATP Tour last year, so expect Djokovic to be very motivated to get that honour back.

Their recent Wimbledon clash was a spectacular one which Alcaraz won in five sets to lift his second Grand Slam trophy. Speaking to El Pais after his win in London, Alcaraz admitted that he's keeping an eye on Novak as he still considers him to be the best player in the world.

I know that now everyone will want to beat me and that’s nice, but at the same time I’m keeping my eye on Novak. I would love to play against him many more times, because it is a tremendous challenge and I still consider him to be the best.

Alcaraz to El Pais

Keeping an eye on Djokovic as his biggest rival makes sense. The Spaniard has only a handful of losses this year and while some have been shocking like the one in Rome, Djokovic is the only player that beat him fully healthy. Kind of at least.

The match Djokovic won was one where the score was 1-1 at the time Alcaraz started cramping but still, the Serbian proved a tough challenge for him. He passed the other tests rather comfortably including against Medvedev who was undefeated for over a month when Alcaraz beat him.

I have always admired him, I have watched countless videos of him to learn. It’s not enough to win one game to change that, so I have to do it more times.

Alcaraz on Djokovic.
