Alcaraz Overtakes Djokovic In 2023 ATP Race After Wimbledon Triumph

Carlos Alcaraz is the 2023 Wimbledon Championships champion, and he's also the new leader of the ATP Race to Turin.

Carlos Alcaraz first became world number one last year at the US Open, where he won his maiden Grand Slam trophy. The Spaniard is actually the youngest world number one ever on the ATP Tour, and he's still the number one player in the world after this event.

It comes after he ensured that by winning the 2023 Wimbledon as the winner was basically ensured to be the top player after the event. If Alcaraz lost to Djokovic in the final he would have been ranked number two but he won and he's number one.

It's not the only ranking where he's ahead of Djokovic. The ATP Race to Turin is basically a ranking of who has the most points by now this season and Alcaraz is on top there as well. He wasn't before this event having been second to Djokovic but is now ahead of him.

The Spaniard has 6 675 points, while Djokovic has now 5 945. The difference between the winner and the second-placed player at Wimbledon is 800 points. The winner gets 2000 points, and the runner-up gets 1200 points. The difference between Alcaraz and Djokovic right now is 730 points which shows you how crucial the match was.

The duo will likely battle for the number one rank for much of this year, with the US Open being a huge one for Alcaraz as he defends 2000 points while Djokovic doesn't have any points to defend. It's also going to be interesting to see which player is going to finish as the year-end No. 1.

For now, he's the leader but there are plenty of big events to be played and things could change dramatically. Djokovic has been very good indoors in recent years, more so than Alcaraz.
