The USTA has prepared special welcome boxes for native players at the 2023 US Open, and it's a nice gesture ahead of the last Grand Slam of the season.
The USTA takes care of its players very well, though American players obviously get a bit extra. The event has prepared special welcome packages for the American players at this year's event. The box has several things, like an Apple Watch and a Mophie power bank.
It also features a special welcome message from tennis legend Billie Jean King and a handwritten note from Tournament director Stacey Allaster. Reporter Blair Henley shared what the package looks like on her X profile.
The @usta is giving American players this amazing “welcome” box, complete with an Apple Watch, personalized @mophie charger & commemorative glass. The box also includes a handwritten note from TD Stacey Allaster and a message from the one and only Billie Jean King. #USOpen.
The message from King is a rather straightforward one where she introduces herself, explaining the significance of this year's event. 50 years ago King ensured that men and women were paid the same amount after winning the US Open.
Hi, I’m Billie Jean King. Welcome to New York and the 2023 U.S. Open where we’re celebrating 50 years of equal prize money. This is your time to shine so embrace it and enjoy it. You've earned your place here and you have a platform to inspire the next generation of American players who dream of being where you are now. So make the most of it. Feel the energy, absorb the electricity, thrive on the pressure because pressure is a privilege. The US Open is a place that defines you so win or lose let it define you as a champion. Go for it.
At this year's US Open, there are multiple Americans that will try to fight for the trophy, in both the men's draw, but also the women's draw. Two highest-ranked Americans on the ATP Tour are Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe, while the two favourites on the WTA Tour are Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff. All of them could possibly go all the way at Flushing Meadows this year.
