'When You Achieve Your Goals, You Simply Set New Ones': Gauff On Motivation After US Open Win

Coco Gauff admitted that she's achieved her goal for this year but she's not done yet because she has now new goals.

The career of Coco Gauff has been amazing so far, considering how young she is. Most players don't even play regular WTA tennis by this time, but she's already a Grand Slam champion and the first teenager in a while to secure back-to-back appearances at the WTA Finals.

Those were the two main goals of the American who achieved both. It made the season a success, but it doesn't mean that she's done because once you reach your goals, you tend to set new ones, and that's what she did, as she revealed at the 2023 China Open.

Although I achieved my goal for this season, I feel like I might have lost some motivation. When you achieve your goals, you simply set new ones. I think that's what I did right, setting new goals and finding something else to motivate me to achieve them.

Gauff on her goals

Gauff had some worries about her motivation after the US Open, but she was happy to see her remain motivated and just treat every match with the necessary seriousness.

The WTA Finals are obviously the most important event, but she plays to win every match, including these ones, no matter how insignificant they might seem.

When you arrive with a little less expectations - and I had no expectations in terms of results either - you do better than you expected. I wasn't sure what my mindset was going to be after the US Open.

Gauff on motivation

I knew I'd be motivated, but I hoped I wouldn't try to watch the WTA Finals instead. I feel like I've done a good job playing every game no matter what and without throwing in the towel, that's why I'm proud.
