As the number one player in the world and the reigning US Open champion, Iga Swiatek has a target on her back in New York.

She's more vulnerable this year compared to last year, but having a target on her back isn't something that concerns her very much ahead of the 2023 US Open. She's in New York to win the trophy, and that's what she will try and do no matter what the chatter off the court is.

The Polish player arrived early to New York after her exit in Cincinnati. She wasn't sad about it as it gave her time to practice and recall the conditions at the event. Asked about her preparation, Swiatek admitted she was happy with how Montreal and Cincinnati unfolded.
Well, for sure I'm happy that I had time to practice a little bit more and to work on some technical stuff. But I'm really happy with my performance in Montreal and Cincinnati. I get more, like, positive vibes, for sure than before last year's tournament. But being the defending champion is not easy, so I'm kind of taking it easy, trying to do everything step by step.
Let's see how far the positive vibes take her. The field is much more dangerous than last year, with Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, Ons Jabeur, Jessica Pegula, and now Coco Gauff all looking very sharp and eyeing the trophy.
