Tennis players are generally very friendly to one another because they are colleagues after all, though some think there is a lot of animosity.
It's interesting to break down where that sort of assumption comes from but the narrative might come due to the Ukrainian - Russian tensions in the locker room lately. Generally, though, most players get along fine because they are colleagues who understand the hardships of each other very well.
There is a dose of respect there as Ajla Tomljanovic revealed on a recent podcast episode. She addressed rumours of WTA players hating each other completely dismissing that narrative as false. She actually found some of her closest friends on the Tour.
Yeah. There's a big stigma on the women's tour that we all hate each other, and that's definitely not the case. People just like to cling more to the negative stuff than the good things that happen, and I can say that I found some of my closest friends on tour. Not a lot, but you know, a few. And I think that's precious.
When it comes to herself, Tomljanovic revealed that she gets along with a lot of the girls on the tour, and from her observations, that's something fairly common. Not all are close friends but for the most part, the relationships are good.
At the end of the day, you have to spend time with who you're the happiest with and comfortable with. I'm just happy that I have a pretty good relationship with most of the girls on tour, with a few of my favorites.
The Australian is currently away from the sport due to injuries that have plagued her from the start of this year but she hopes to be back on the tennis court as soon as she can.
