Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka have been very consistent players this year and the Polish number one thinks it's just because they are hard workers.
Talent is obviously a factor but talent aren't won't get you very far. Some of the greatest athletes of all time have spoken against the belief that talent only is enough, and it's no different on the WTA Tour. It's not and you're never going to hit a high level unless your work hard.
That's what Swiatek alluded to when she spoke about the consistency she and Sabalenka have been able to produce this year, battling in the final of the 2023 Madrid Open, and in Stuttgart before. She was asked what contributes to it and her response simply talked about both of them being very hard-working.
Me and Aryna, I feel like we just, we're just hard workers. I know that she's super professional as well in terms of, you know, fitness and other stuff, and we're kind of progressing no matter if we're on top or not, so I think that's why we are kind of solid.
She also talked about her own journey of getting to the top and how rapid it was. Even though it was a tough thing to do, Swiatek also shined light on the other side of hard which is to keep yourself at the top level. She is handling it fine for the most part however there have been hiccups this year.
Of course it's tough. People are saying it's tough to get to top, but staying at the top is even tougher. I don't know. I haven't lived enough to know if that's like true or not, but getting to the top, I felt like it would be harder anyway, and staying at the top is hard, but I think I'm doing a good job anyway.
I don't know. It's just a matter of kind of not thinking about it that you're gonna stay here, but it's more like reaching to other stuff that can motivate you and that you can do better no matter what position you're in.
