Aryna Sabalenka is hopeful that Wimbledon will be more open to the return of Russian and Belarusian players in 2023.
Sabalenka wasn't present at this year's event since she and her countrymen were prohibited from attending. For Sabalenka, who participated in the semi-final the previous year and saw a significant decrease in the rankings, it was dealt a difficult blow.
"I think I have zero control on this situation. I'm just sitting and waiting for the decision. And whatever happens, happens," said Sabalenka in Dubai.
She isn't worried too much about it as she'll embrace whatever comes although a hint of annoyance was heard in the tone she struck: "If they're going to ban us for another year, okay, whatever, I'm going to have fun at home in Miami, I'm going to spend some time with my family and do another pre-season."
She explained that she doesn't care about Wimbledon: "Whatever they decide, it's their decision. I don't care about Wimbledon."
