Jessica Pegula faced problems early in her match against Martina Trevisan at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters but rallied to keep her winning streak going.

Pegula recently won the biggest trophy of her career by beating Liudmila Samsonova in the final. It was probably the shortest final she will ever play, considering that she had a massive advantage as her opponent had to play two matches that day. It was evident in the match as Samsonova never settled into it.

Pegula acknowledged her advantage after the match, but she got a trophy, so she won't complain too much about it. The opening match in Cincinnati paired her up with a very tricky player in Trevisan, and we saw the Italian give her problems early on.

Trevisan was up a break twice in the opening set but gave it back each time. It finished in a tie-break, which the Italian won comfortably 7-2. Pegula didn't serve all too well, and she didn't return all too well either, which is unusual as he's one of the better returners on the the WTA Tour.

She did improve dramatically in the second set, which completely changed the match's outcome. Trevisan regressed in her serving as well, which tremendously helped. The American was also more comfortable from the baseline, even though she still didn't serve all too well.

Taking an early break in the second set certainly helped ease the nerves, and she cruised from there. The final set was quite similar in that regard, as she took an early lead once more and cruised from there. Both improved on the serve, but Pegula was simply better in rallies.

The final score was 6-7(2) 6-2 6-3 for the Amercian who turned around a very tricky matchup where she didn't look all too comfortable to start. She looked miles better in the next two sets and secured a spot in the next round.
