Petra Kvitova got married recently, and while it took a few days, she's now used to being a married woman on the WTA Tour and is back to thinking about tennis.

Tennis wasn't the priority for Kvitova in the summer as she had a wedding to attend. It was her wedding as she married long-time partner Jiri Vanek in July. It was a long time coming, so nothing unusual, but she spoke about it after winning her first match at the 2023 US Open, as a married woman on the Grand Slam level.

The win came over Cristina Bucsa at the 2023 US Open in the first round. After the match, Kvitova shared her thoughts with the Czech publication iSport.cz on marriage, changing her surname, and starting the US Open with a win.

Of course, I will remain Kvitova. It's not even worth changing, no one will remember it anyway. The first days after the wedding, I felt a little strange that I was married. But gradually I got used to it. The wedding day was amazing, I'm sure everyone enjoyed it with us. Really great, even the weather held out for us. A beautiful day.

Kvitova on married life

Winning the first match at the US Open was very important for Kvitova, who didn't get an easy draw. Cristina Bucsa is a tough player to pay, and Caroline Wozniacki in round two is far from ideal either, so getting to a good start was important.

The first days after the wedding, I felt a little strange that I was married. But gradually I got used to it. I won the first match, which was important for everyone. Mainly for me.

Caroline Wozniacki won her first match, and we'll get the big one in round two. Kvitova is very excited about it, having known the Danish player for a very long time.

We've known each other for a long time, she also commented on TV, so it felt like she wasn't even gone. We had fun in Montreal, where she performed for the first time in a long time. We met in the dressing room and exchanged a few words.
