Caroline Wozniacki might have come back to play competitive tennis again, but she won't put it above her family.
Last year's comeback to tennis surprised many in and outside of the tennis world. Nobody saw Wozniacki coming back to the sport, but she did, and she played quite a bit at the start.
She won't be playing as much this year because some things are more important. She talked about her motivation to return to the sport many times, but family remains the Danish player's number one priority.
Speaking after her most recent win at the Indian Wells Open, Wozniacki confirmed that she won't be playing as much, certainly not every week, as some have suggested.
"I definitely will be playing less. You know, traveling with the family is not easy, but it's something that I really enjoy doing. Just traveling every week is not something that is possible for us as a unit and it's not what's best for my family."
Travelling with two small children week in and week out makes very little sense for the former world no. 1 and won't do them any good. Tennis is important to Wozniacki, and she wants to do well on this comeback, but she won't put it above her family.
Another reason why she's not going to play much is her experience. She really feels like that vast experience will help her navigate the WTA Tour well despite very little playtime.
"I definitely will be playing less, but at the same time, I feel like with the experience that I have and the amount of years I've been on tour, I feel like I can navigate that."
It could work out for Wozniacki but tennis is a very momentum-based sport. It's hard to stop and go all the time, but she'll figure out what works the best for her and her family.
