Serena Williams might not be in tennis anymore, but the world keeps spinning, and she turned 42 recently, despite competing on the WTA Tour only recently.
It's been 42 years since we've been blessed with the presence of the 23-time Grand Slam champion on this planet, and she gave tennis enthusiasts around the world a lot over the years.
Widely described as the greatest woman to ever play tennis and one of the greatest tennis players in general, Williams has a long list of achievements, too long, actually. However, we will take a look at some of them to mark this legendary player who bid farewell to the sport in New York one year ago.
First of all, she has 23 Grand Slam trophies. It's not the most in the history of tennis or the most by a woman but her 23 are, according to some, more impressive than Margaret Court’s 24. It's the single greatest achievement in women's tennis ever.
She won six of those without dropping a single set, something only Martina Navratilova managed to do. She played in 33 Grand Slam Finals which is amazing. Very few people have an Olympic medal let alone the four that she has.
She holds the record for most hard court titles at 47, just one of many records she has. She spent 186 consecutive weeks at number one and 319 in total, which trails only Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graff. Those are some of the things she's done, but not all, we'd stay here for days if we were to list everything she achieved.
An incredible career, an incredible individual who still continues to inspire players even after retiring from the sport. She's arguably the biggest tennis star women's tennis ever seen, which speaks volumes. Happy Birthday, Serena, the GOAT of women's tennis.
