Kvitova Downplays Injury Concern After Early Roland Garros Exit

Petra Kvitova lost in the first round of Roland Garros but she downplayed any serious injury concerns after the match.

The Czech player had a pretty big highlight in her career this year when she won the Miami Open by stunning Rybakina in the final. It was a surprise run that left Kvitova quite content joking that she accomplished her goals for the season.

Since then it's been somewhat rocky as her clay season hasn't been going well. She first dealt with an early pull-out in Stuttgart and now an early exit from Roland Garros certainly doesn't do much for the look of her 2023 clay season.

After the match, Kvitova confirmed that she was dealing with some physical issues but it's not something that's a major issue. It's been part of her life for years but got a bit worse following the Miami Open push recently. She got a trophy out of it so she's not mad.

I have had the growth on my leg for many years, the shoe presses on my Achilles and it hurts every time I move. A bigger inflammation developed, I brought it from Miami, where I probably dragged it. But I'm not complaining, the title was worth it. I already had it at the Rio Olympics when I fought for bronze. I've suffered from it 100% for quite a few years now, because of it I even play in old shoes, which are softer on the heel and don't press as much.

Clay is certainly not a surface that she'll mind seeing in the rear-view window. Grass is a surface much more suited to her play and there are no worries about her missing time on grass. Her result in Paris was the result of a lack of preparation.

It took me a long time to get myself together and I'm still getting myself together. I didn't even train properly before Paris. I tried tennis only in the last few days and it was visible in the movement and the game in general.
