Anett Kontaveit has been out with injuries for a while but she made a winning return at the Italian Open against Alycia Parks.

Kontaveit made a return a few weeks ago playing for Estonia in the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers but her proper return to the WTA Tour came at the Italian Open and against Alycia Parks. It was quite a spectacular return as she defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1 showing herself to be in pretty decent shape at the moment.

The American also greatly helped her with 11 double faults and not ideal performance overall which was vastly different from the level she produced in Madrid just a week ago. Speaking after the match, Kontaveit explained the feeling of winning a match on the top level of tennis.

I played a good game. The opponent did not feel most comfortable playing on clay. I seemed to be able to move her very well and play her strong serves. I was a bit more stable than my opponent. I didn't give her easy points, she had to fight everything out himself.

This win was just the start for Kontaveit as she has the ambition to return to where she was before and that's the top 10. It's going to be a long road ahead but she's confident that she can get it done if she plays her best tennis consistently.

After such a victory, you are always happy and feel that things are getting better. I have to take it game by game and see how my body feels. I'm glad to be back. It's nice to experience the feeling of victory again.

Up next for Kontaveit is Liudmila Samsonova who is a top-20-ranked player who will be tough to beat. She's ready for the challenge.
