Coco Gauff is a player who keeps track of everything on social media, and she let it be known after the 2023 US Open.
Gauff once admitted to spending hours on TikTok, which she confirmed wasn't a good thing. Even so, she's part of a generation that was essentially raised online, and her being quite active on social is nothing unusual.
She's also fully aware of Tennis Twitter and what goes on there. As one of the best players in the world, there's a lot of chatter about herself and how she's, according to some, not good enough to win the biggest trophies, something she dispelled by beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
I would say for sure a little bit after the Wimbledon loss, honestly. You know, people, I don't know, I just felt like people were, like, oh, she's hit her peak and she's done. It was all hype. I see the comments. People don't think I see it but I see it. I'm very aware of Twitter. I know y'all's usernames, so I know who's talking trash and I can't wait to look on Twitter right now.
As she noted some stuff that was said got to her after Wimbledon, and she really wanted to prove everyone wrong. She referenced her detractors after her win clearly letting them know that she was aware of what they said.
Yeah, a little bit after that. And yeah, honestly after that, I was, like, okay, I have a lot of work to do. I think it restarted again after D.C., because I felt like I had the belief, but it wasn't fully there because a 500 to a Grand Slam is a way different level.
So I think this means a lot to me. I wish I could give this trophy to my past self so she can be, like, all those tears are for this moment.
